The powers that be at the Italian lower division side are pleased to continue their relationship with their Nigerian import
Reggina sporting director Massimo Taibi has expressed his delight at the positive development of Napoli-owned midfielder Michael Folorunsho.
Folorunsho’s relationship with Reggina began in September 2020 when Gli Amaranto took him on a season-long loan deal from Napoli.
The centre-midfielder performed excellently as he scored six goals and supplied three assists in 30 league games to help Reggina finish 11th in Serie B.
Retaining hopes of promotion to Serie A, the club returned for Folorunsho in the summer but somehow missed out on his signature as Pordenone completed his loan signing.
But his adventure at Pordenone only lasted 17 games, yielding three goals and two assists, before the Italy-born ace returned to Napoli in January.
Reggina did not waste time swooping for their man on transfer deadline day and acquiring his services until June.
Folorunsho has been everything Reggina hoped he would be, with the 24-year-old helping Roberto Stellone’s men to six wins and two draws in the ten matches he has played.
The Lazio academy product scored the only goal in the 1-0 defeat of Cosenza just before the international break, and Taibi is convinced that the midfielder loves life in Reggina more than in Pordenone.
“Folorunsho has grown a lot this year,” Taibi told 1 Station Radio as per CalcioNapoli24.
“In Pordenone, he did not give his best. Now since January, he has resumed the conversation he interrupted in July with us. In certain parts of the pitch, he can be an important player.”
Folorunsho will get another chance to further impress his employers when Reggina trade tackles with league leaders Cremonese this afternoon (Saturday) in a Serie B matchday 32 encounter.
