The Yellow Submarine faced a tough Bayern Munich side, but they were able to hold their own
Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze came off the bench to help Villarreal secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie.
The Yellow Submarine entertained German champions Bayern Munich in the first leg of their quarterfinal tie. Villarreal were underdogs going into the game, but they showed their mettle against a strong Bavarian side.
Villarreal showed they were up for the game from the very last of the whistle, and it took them just eight minutes to get themselves in front. Arnaut Danjuma shot a well-placed shot behind Manuel Neuer to make it 1-0.
After they scored, Unai Emery’s lads did not relent, and they tried to match the Bavarians. They kept a sturdy defense, repelling everything that Bayern threw at them.
In the second half, Bayern Munich showed more hunger. Still, goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli was brilliant in goal, making five saves.
Nigeria international Chukwueze was introduced into the game in the 81st minute for goalscorer Danjuma.
Chukwueze put up a decent shift, assisting the defense with one clearance. And his runs also helped to keep Bayern Munich in check.
The Yellow Submarine held out for the slim victory. However, they have a tough battle when they travel to the Allianz Arena next week.
