Arokodare shines as Nigerian players experience mixed fortunes in Europe

Super Eagles were once again in action across European leagues on Saturday and it was mixed fortunes

Samuel Chukwueze was on for 68 minutes in Villarreal’s 2-1 win away to Getafe.

Chukwueze, who delivered the fatal blow that sent Bayern Munich out of the Champions League in midweek had a less impressive outing on Saturday.

He had 28 touches in the game and lost possession 11 times. The winger also completed 13 of his 20 passes in the game and had just one of his three attempted dribbles successful before being subbed off for Yeremy Pino.

In Italy, Ola Aina continued his return to the Torino starting eleven as he played for 74 minutes.

The Super Eagles defender played from the wing back in the game and had 58 touches, while he completed 80% of his 40 attempted passes. None of Aina’s four crosses found a target as he also lost possession in the 1-1 draw against Lazio 15 times.

Zaidu Sanusi also featured for 45 minutes as Porto drubbed Portimonense 7-0 in the Portuguese league. The defender didn’t have much to do throughout his stay on the pitch as he was substituted after the first half.

Super Eagles’ goalkeeper Maduka Okoye had a game to forget as he conceded three times against Fortuna Düsseldorf. Okoye had a low 17 touches in 90 minutes and also completed just 33% of his attempted passes. Of his 7 ball long balls attempts, he completed just one.

The loss puts Sparta further down the table as their chances of survival in the Eredivisie get slimmer by every defeat.

Chidera Ejuke was also in action for 20 minutes in CSKA Moscow’s 1-1 draw against FC Ufa. The former Heerenveen star completed all his attempted 8 passes in the game.

In the La Liga Smartbank, Kenneth Omeruo had a game to quickly forget as Leganes were taken to the cleaners 3-0 at home. The former Chelsea defender had the lowest rating in the game as he didn’t win any of his ground or aerial duels.

In the German Bundesliga 2, Afeez Aremu came on as a 73rd minute substitute in St.Pauli’s 1-1 draw at Sandhausen. St.Pauli currently sit second on the log and are eyeing an automatic promotion to the premier division.

Tolu Arokodare’s 69th minute goal helped Amiens steal a point away to Caen. It was his 8th goal of the season in 30 games. The lanky attacker was substituted on the 81st minute after sustaining an injury.
