Earliest reports about the cause of the death of Zambian doctor, Joseph Kabungo are still conflicting but Nigeria may be risking heavy sanctions.
Dr Kabungo according to eyewitness accounts was beaten to by irate Nigerian fans until he lost his consciousness on Tuesday. Attempts made by medical officials of both teams failed to resuscitate him.
In other reports, the Zambian who was the FIFA/CAF doping official for the game died as a result of cardiac arrest.
Ghanaian journalist, Saddick Adams quoted a CAF official as saying;
“Dr Kabungo had a cardiac arrest when walking towards the team dressing rooms and collapsed on the floor.
“Both teams’ doctors and other medical personnel administered CPR on him but after a while he was taken to the hospital and that’s when the terrible news was confirmed,”
After the final blast of the whistle and Ghana booked their place to the World Cup, violent fans in their hundreds trooped to the pitch and went bananas.
They destroyed the stands, the pitch and attacked officials and journalists.
Players of the Super Eagles were in the dressing room more than an hour after the game as they couldn’t leave the stadium over the fear of not being attacked by the violent fans.
Nigerians have asked for the resignation of Amaju Pinnick and the entire NFF board after the match and the unfortunate incident that followed.
