Throwback Video: Super Eagles defeat Algeria In Uyo ahead of 2018 World Cup

Nigeria will face Ghana in two decisive fixtures to determine who gets one of the spots for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

It’s not the first of such herculean tasks for the Super Eagles as they’ve had to contend against strong oppositions in the past to make it to the global football fiesta.

The road to the Russia 2018 World Cup in particular was a feisty one on paper with the Super Eagles drawn alongside Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia.

The difficulty of the grouping raised doubts about the team’s quality to make it to the World Cup, especially considering that Nigeria was just coming up again at the time.

Those concerns were soon extinguished when the Super Eagles faced the Desert Foxes of Algeria.

On a feisty evening at the Nest of Champions in Uyo, the Super Eagles clashed with Algeria and produced one of their finest performances in recent years. The game sent fans in raptures and proved a perfect start for the Super Eagles, having earned a 2-1 away at Zambia.

The game against Algeria ended 3-1 in favour of Nigeria with Victor Moses scoring twice and John Obi Mikel scoring on both sides of Moses’ efforts.
