Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed that the Nigerian team was treated poorly prior to the first leg of their World Cup qualifier against Ghana.
The three-time African Champions secured a goalless result when they travelled to the Baba Yara Stadium last Thursday. However, it was not a clean result from the Ghanaians, as they employed some rude antics to put the Super Eagles off before the game.
The Ghanaians opened their bag of tricks when they decided to release their squad list for the game three days before the first leg. In fact, among the ten teams in contention for a place in Qatar, the Black Stars were the last to release their squad list.
They continued with their foul antics when Nigeria arrived in Ghana, as they provided an undersized ramp for the players to disembark from the plane. It was a disgraceful sight as the Nigerian team had to hop and jump out of the plane.
Also, Napoli hitman Osimhen has revealed that the Ghanaians did not allow them to have a feel of the stadium before the game.
“From our hotel to the stadium was 30-35 minutes, and on our way there, there was a huge Ghanaian crowd screaming at us, hitting our bus, and making different rude signs at us,” Osimhen told Elegbete TV.
“We were in the traffic for close to 45 minutes before we got to the dressing room.
“It was not up to 20 minutes, then Yobo came to us that we had to leave. We didn’t even have the chance to inspect the pitch as we should have done ahead of the game day.”
Nonetheless, despite the shenanigans, Nigeria still picked a 0-0 result from the over-filled Baba Yara Stadium.
The Super Eagles are back in Nigeria ahead of the second leg on Tuesday, and only a victory would secure a World Cup berth for Nigeria.
