Olise stars, Eze shines as Crystal Palace dump Iwobi’s Everton out of the FA Cup

The three players of Nigerian descent made the matchday squads for the two teams, but the Super Eagles midfielder will play no further part in the prestigious cup competition

Alex Iwobi and Everton’s FA Cup dreams came to an end on Sunday after Frank Lampard’s men suffered a 4-0 humiliation at Crystal Palace.

While Ebere Eze and Michael Olise made the starting eleven for the Eagles, Iwobi only made the bench for the Toffees.

By the time Iwobi came on to replace Seamus Coleman in the 73rd minute, Everton were already trailing by two goals – Olise providing Guehi’s opener and Mateta adding a second.

The introduction of the Super Eagles star failed to spark any resurgence in the visitors, though, with Wilfred Zaha and Will Hughes adding two more goals in the final ten minutes.

Iwobi and his teammates will turn their full attention to the Premier League, where Everton sit dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Iwobi’s stoppage-time winner against Newcastle last time out carved out the three-point gap between the Toffees and 18th-place Watford.
