The Red-white Gladiators sit rock bottom in the Eredivisie but Okoye is still optimistic about their chances of safety
Super Eagles shot-stopper Maduka Okoye is relishing the tension and competition that comes with fighting relegation in the Dutch Eredivisie.
The Red-White Gladiators are in unfamiliar territory as they sit rock bottom of the Dutch top-flight. They have been in poor form, taking just one win from their last twelve games.
Sparta Rotterdam were close to making a significant stride in their relegation battle last time out at Vitesse Arnhem, but the referee interrupted the game a few minutes to the end due to unruly behaviour from the home fans.
Nevertheless, Okoye is not bothered about all the shenanigans, as he insists that he is enjoying the fight to stay afloat.
“It’s fun to fight for points. These are months that you never forget in your career. You also have to enjoy it, fight every week and tension,” Okoye told Rijnmond.
Sparta Rotterdam continue their battle to stay afloat this weekend when they welcome Go Ahead Eagles, and Okoye would look to put another spectacular performance to help his side stay alive.
