Leicester City star Ademola Lookman has shared his excitement after making his debut for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their World Cup qualifier against Ghana.
The former Everton man could have been at the last Africa Cup of Nations, but he could not confirm his switch from England to Nigeria in time. However, his switch was later confirmed in February.
Upon his switch of allegiance, Augustine Eguavoen selected the 24-year-old in his 25-man squad for the crucial World Cup qualifier against Ghana. And he finally made his debut for the three-time African champions when he replaced Moses Simon in the first leg of the doubleheader against the Black Stars.
In 16 minutes, Lookman had 13 touches and an 80 percent pass accuracy.
The Leicester City attacker took to social media to share his joy at making his first international appearance for Nigeria.
“Extremely proud and grateful to have made my Super Eagles debut. Thank you God for the opportunity. It means everything to put on the shirt and represent my country. See you on Tuesday. We need your support.”
Nigeria welcome Ghana in the second on Tuesday, and with Simon’s and Chukwueze’s profligacy, the Leicester man could get his first start for Nigeria.
