Super Falcons stars left in tears after disgraceful welcome in Abuja

The eleven-time African champions did the nation proud with the feat in Ivory Coast, but they were faced with a bizarre situation on their return

The Super Falcons of Nigeria beat Ivory Coast 1-0 on Wednesday to secure a ticket to the upcoming 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.

Still, on their return to Nigeria, they were held hostage at the Nnamdi Azikiwe airport for over four hours for no just reason.

The Super Falcons left Abidjan immediately after their 3-0 aggregate triumph over Ivory Coast and considering their feat, it would be only expedient that they received a warm welcome back.

But that was not the case, as the team was not allowed to leave the airport for over four hours due to “Covid-19 testing issues.”

Assistant captain Onome Ebi took to Twitter to share her displeasure at the treatment she and her teammates were passing through.

Also, UNAL Tigres star Uchenna Kanu was left in tears at the situation and had to be consoled by teammate Rasheedat Ajibade.

Francesca Ordega was also displeased by their predicaments and complained bitterly.

  • This is just a disgrace. Whatever the Covid 19 protocols for female national team should be handled well. Those responsible got some explanations to avoid future occurrence and similar things happening. These women are great ambassadors and should be treated with respect and decency. They should have a plan in anticipation for things like this. This is a disgrace and incompetency to our country. Like I said those responsible got explanations

  • Now who should resign for DISRESPECTING these young LADIES,HEROINES,PATRIOTS,DISTINGUISHED Nigerians,SPECIAL BREEDS,ETC.
The FA president and his deputy should resign.
All officials of the NCDC involved in this saga must resig.

They must also tender a public apology individually to these HEROINES of ours.

If these careless officials refuse to resign with apologies,I will stand with these Very SPECIAL BREED among Nigerians in any action they choose to protest the DISRESPECT for honouring our Country Nigeria.

    • You are damm right bro. Total disrespect and breakdown of law. I thought we sing all the time “the labors of our heroes will never be in vain. Lol. Now the labors of these beautiful women are in vain. Thorough investigation needs to be conducted who and who failed to conduct their duties in a proper manner. Is this how you welcome them home after conquering the Lady Elephants away? I can’t wrap my head around this nonsense

  • There was a country. What a shame. Has the entourage of any Government official been subjected to such clumsy protocol? A country that is never prepared for any event.. Even at the face of failure that official is bold enough to tell our delegates to do their worst. My.sisters please cry no more.

  • What kind of a Fucken country is this. This girls made us proud for crying out loud, where is Buhari and his Co- hot? Where is the minister of Sport? If they could treat this female National team like this it means this country is in trouble. The Men National team, where are they now? They failed woefully at the just concluded AFCON and that was because they new that given their best to this Zoo Country is just a waste of time. plz you girls should just stop playing for this YEYE country. We go about celebrating wicked and heartless politicians. We go about celebrating Criminals stealing our funds, we go about celebrating Governors and other public office holders and here we are leaving behind the girls we should be celebrating. We have failed as a country. #REVOLUTIONNOW

  • Irresponsibility of public officials and politicians have become the trademark of Nigeria in recent times. The NFF officials responsible for the travel itinerary of these ladies would not even be queried after this, so how can such behaviour be corrected. We are paying the price of having unqualified, incompetent and unserious set of human beings occupying almost all the key positions in this country, due to nepotism and corruption.

  • This is so shameful and heartbreaking. How criminals has taken over Nigeria as a whole and would shamelessly ask you to do your worst when caught.
It is for reasons like this many Nigerian players born abroad refuses invitation to come play for us, because Nigeria is now like monkey village, an animal farm where criminality and holiganism thrives in the highest order. I am just wondering what the oversea born ladies in the team like Plumtre and co would think of us. That display of madness will be so strange to them. They would never imagine some humans still acts like domestic animals in this 2021 century, especually those intoxicated by power due to unqualified offices they crookedly occupy ( nepotism). Ladies who passionately chose to serve fatherland, some babarians are asking them to pay bribe before they gain freedom into their fatherland. Where is NFF leadership? Is the presidency seeing this shame at all? Has criminal involved been thrown into jail yet? This is an insult on Nigeria as a nation and it must not be treated with levity because people elsewhere would be wondering what kind of a lawless and disorderly nation we have stupidly become in a time when other nations has moved ahead to embrace wisdom, love, fairness, orderliness and light.

  • Something sure is wrong with nigerian govt actors. Ncdc, nff, faan, m of sports. All of them aren't serious. You knew the team ll be arriving yet you did nothing until you kept them frustrated for over 3hrs. Come to think of it. Every serious country is relaxing the herculean covid 19 protocols. Why should ours be different? The officials are more interested in meeting the nonsense target and patronage of crony labs. You know you pay over 50k to do another pcr test in nigeria. That is if you are vaccinated otherwise you pay over 100k to whomever for 5 minutes test. God ll deliver Nigeria from official harassment and cheating. The girls should go ahead to spearhead a protest. Enough is enough!!!
