The Nigerian star has had a big breakthrough in his career, and he could be on his way to playing in Europe’s elite competition
Super Eagles midfielder Samson Tijani has been included in Red Bull Salzburg’s squad for their round of 16 clash against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.
The former Golden Eaglets star joined Austrian side RB Salzburg in 2020 after impressing for Nigeria at the 2019 Under-17 World Cup in Brazil.
However, Tijani has struggled to secure a spot at the Austrian champions. In his first season, the defensive midfielder had to go on loan to TSV Hartberg. Still, the Austrian hierarchy were not convinced that he was good enough to make it into the first team.
This season, Tijani was loaned out to Austrian second division side Liefering, and he has made eight appearances for the side, helping them to second position after 16 games.
However, in a release via Salzburg’s website, the 19-year-old has finally had his breakthrough after the Austrian champions recalled him from his loan deal at Liefering and included the Nigerian star in the squad for their UCL rounded 16 clash against Bayern Munich.
Tijani was the captain of the team at the U-17 World Cup in 2019. He made his debut for the Super Eagles under former coach Gernot Rohr in a friendly game against Algeria in October 2020.
