Serie A: Osimhen’s efforts not enough as Napoli and Inter Milan share the spoils

The 23-year-old attacker was again in action but the Neapolitans missed the chance to go top of the Italian top-flight

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen continued his impressive form but it was not enough to hand Napoli the win in their Serie A clash against Inter Milan at the Diego Armando Maradona on Saturday evening.

Osimhen was seeking some sort of revenge in the clash as he had suffered a facial fracture that ruled him out for two months in the first leg.

The Nigerian international scored his first goal last weekend since his return from his injury and was eager to continue in the same vein against the champions.

It did not take long for Osimhen to impose his presence as he won Napoli a penalty in the fifth minute following a VAR review.

Lorenzo Insigne stepped up to dispatch the penalty to give Napoli a perfect start. Osimhen continued to threaten, using his effective pace to trouble the centre-back pairing of Stefan de Vrij and Milan Skriniar.

The Nigerian had an impressive 100% pass accuracy while he was also denied by Inter’s goalkeeper Handanovic on one occasion.

He also created one big chance and made one key pass before he went off for Dries Mertens in the 84th minute.

But despite Osimhen’s efforts, Napoli were denied the three points after Edin Dzeko restored the parity for the away side two minutes after the break.

The result means Napoli missed the chance to overtake the champions at the top of the table, although AC Milan could go top if they beat Sampdoria on Sunday.
