Nigeria-eligible player Madueke matches Barcelona star’s record and ex-Chelsea winger’s feat

The 19-year-old attacker was on target in PSV’s win over Heerenveen in their Eredivisie encounter at the Philips Stadion

Noni Madueke made history on Sunday after he scored in PSV’s 3-1 victory against Heerenveen in their Eredivisie top-flight encounter.

Madueke opened the scoring for Roger Schmidt’s men in the 13th minute to set the tone for the rest of the match.

Tibor Halilovic levelled the scores for the away side, but goals from Mario Gotze and Joey Veerman sealed the win for PSV.

It was Madueke’s third league goal in ten games this season, but more importantly, his tenth goal in the Eredivisie.

This makes Madueke the only teenager after Barcelona star Memphis Depay and former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben to score at least ten league goals for PSV in the 21st century.

Madueke joined the Dutch club from Tottenham Hotspur in 2018, but he initially played for the youth teams before making his first-team debut in the 2019/2020 campaign.

Since making his debut, he has played 38 games, scoring ten goals and providing seven assists. However, he has had a frustrating campaign this season, with only ten appearances to his name.

The youngster has been unlucky with injuries and has missed 13 league games already this campaign. He only returned from a muscle injury in the game against Vitesse.

Nonetheless, the youngster is still one of the highly-rated prospects in the Dutch top division. Madueke was born in England and has represented the Three Lions youth teams.

However, he is also eligible to play for Nigeria through his parents.
