The defending champions fell to a disappointing home defeat in their league game of the year last weekend, and their Nigerian import has called for all hands on deck to get them back to winning ways
Super Eagles winger Peter Olayinka has charged his Slavia Prague teammates to expect a tough afternoon on Sunday when they make the trip to the Městský fotbalový stadion to face Slovacko in a matchday 21 clash of the Czech First League.
Slavia lost the top spot in the elite division last weekend when they surprisingly lost 1-0 at home to bottom club Karvina.
Olayinka contributed to that shock defeat when he missed a penalty six minutes after coming off the bench on the hour-mark, with scores still goalless. He then watched in disbelief as compatriot Rafiu Durosinmi grabbed the winner for the lowly visitors three minutes later.
The 26-year-old forward remains one of Slavia’s best players, though. Aside from Slovakian striker Ivan Schranz and Czech midfielder Ondřej Lingr (both with seven goals), no other red-and-white star has scored more than Olayinka’s four league goals this term.
Only a win can get Jindřich Trpišovský’s men above Victoria Plzen on the table, but it will not come easy against a Slovacko side that has won all but one of their nine home league games.
A cup loss at home to city rivals Sparta Prague in midweek has also hurt team confidence. And Olayinka admits a difficult afternoon awaits the Slavists on Sunday.
“It simply came to our notice then. They have won eight out of nine home matches,” the Nigerian international said, as per Czech’s eFotbal.
“We must be prepared; everyone must concentrate on that match as much as possible after what has happened in the last two matches. We have to concentrate and prepare for this match; it will be really difficult.”
After three and a half successful years at Slavia Prague, Olayinka has won the league title thrice and the Cup twice.
