Dennis helps Watford secure valuable point at Man Utd

The Nigerian international was in action as the Hornets gave themselves a lifeline after their superb performance at Old Trafford

Super Eagles star Emmanuel Dennis put up a decent performance for Watford to help them secure a goalless draw away at Manchester United.

The Hornets travelled to Old Trafford, but it was always an uphill task getting a result from Manchester United.

Watford boss Roy Hodgson set up his team to play ultra-defensive football, hoping to use the pace of Emmanuel Dennis and Ismaila Sarr on the counter.

However, the Red Devils still found ways to breach the Watford defence. Fortunately for Watford, United were not thorough with their finishing.

Dennis was isolated up front, with Manchester United keeping the bulk of the possession.

Nonetheless, Watford kept it solid at the back and saw out a goalless first half. Manchester United got into the second half fiery, some early chances fell to Ronaldo and Elanga, but their finishing was distasteful.

Manchester United coach Ralf Rangnick added bite to his attack with the introduction of Rashford and Jadon Sancho. The duo’s introduction made United look more dangerous, but Watford were still stealthy.

It was a defensive masterclass from the Hornets, but Manchester United’s profligacy played a role in helping Watford keep a clean sheet.

Dennis had 39 touches in the game and also had three successful dribbles. The draw at Old Trafford means that Watford have taken four points from a possible six in the Premier League this season.

However, they still sit 19th on the log, two points off safety.
