Transfers: Super Eagles star finally finds a new club in Israel

The January transfer window is just a few days away from closing, but one of Nigeria’s forgotten players has secured a move to the Israeli top-flight

Erstwhile Super Eagles midfielder John Ogu has finally found a club after more than two years without competitive action.

The 33-year-old had been unattached since leaving Saudi Arabian club Al-Adalah in January 2020. But his difficult days are now over after he signed a deal with Israel’s Premier League side Hapoel Nof HaGalil Football Club.

Ogu announced the move in a post on his Instagram. The former Leiria man was seen signing his contract papers and holding the jersey of his new team.

The move means Ogu returns to Israel almost three years after leaving. The Super Eagles midfielder was formerly on the books for Hapoel Beer Sheva, a club he joined from Coimbra in 2014.

Ogu spent five years with Hapoel, winning the Israeli Premier League title three times. He left in 2019 after his contract expired.

Although not officially retired yet, Ogu has not played for Nigeria since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
