Osimhen back in action after injury layoff as Napoli return to winning ways

The Super Eagles star is back in competitive action after almost two months out with a broken left cheekbone and orbit

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen played his first game in 57 days after he was introduced in the 70th minute to help Napoli to a 2-0 victory away at Bologna.

The Napoli hitman suffered a left cheekbone and orbital fracture after colliding with Milan Skriniar in Napoli’s Serie A loss to Inter Milan on the 21st of November 2021.

As a result of the injury, the former Lille man was ruled out for three months after undergoing surgery. However, Osimhen’s time on the sidelines was reduced after a face mask was designed for him.

On Osimhen’s return, Napoli needed to get back to winning ways after an embarrassing loss to Fiorentina last week. The Partenopei faced a Bologna side that had just a win from their previous five games.

Spalletti’s men did not have the home advantage, but it was a dominant display from Napoli. They bossed the possession, although both sides had the same number of attempts at goal.

However, Napoli were more clinical as two goals from Hirving Lozano were enough to secure the vital three points.

In Osimhen’s twenty minutes on the pitch, he had eight touches and an attempt at goal, but it was a wayward one. He also won three of his four duels.
