‘He is decisive’- Rohr shows his support for Super Eagles star player at AFCON 2021

The 68-year-old tactician has been impressed with the performances of the Nigerian team so far at the competition, but he has singled out one of the players for special praise

Former Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has showered praises on Nantes winger Moses Simon for his exceptional displays at the 2021 Africa Cup Nations in Cameroon.

Simon has been Nigeria’s best player in the competition, and he is in contention for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award if the Super Eagles go far.

The 26-year-old has one goal and one assist to his name, while he has also completed the most dribbles (15) at the tournament so far.

Coming into the tournament, Simon was one of the most vilified players due to his below-par performances under Rohr, who was sacked as the Super Eagles coach a month before the tournament.

However, he has been let loose under interim boss Austin Eguavoen, and this has impressed Rohr, who believes he has been the best player so far.

“He is decisive, he is an extraordinary boy whom I have always supported and sometimes played in complicated positions, alone in the corridor,” Rohr told Ouest France.

“Because he also defends. He is versatile. He found his regularity with Nantes, even if with Nigeria he always had it.”

“He missed the last World Cup through injury at the last moment. He has the opportunity, this time, to show his qualities to the whole world,” he concluded.

Simon was part of Nigeria’s squad that finished third at the 2019 AFCON under Rohr. But he will hope they go all the way in Cameroon this year.
