Austin Eguavoen Remains Confident in Super Eagles

Ahead of the opening match against Egypt, Interim Super Eagles head coach, Austin Eguavoen, remains confident in the ability of his players to go all the way to the final.

Speaking at the press conference, the coach who led the Super Eagles to the bronze medal at the 2006 AFCON tournament said, “It’s a joyful thing to win the AFCON, we will work hard to win, but we have to take it game by game. It’s about the team and country, I am not looking at personal glory, I am looking at the honour we will bring to our country.”

The Super Eagles will face the Pharaohs of Egypt in the opening match of Group D, and Eguavoen has belief his boys will perform excellently.

“Egypt are seven-times winners of AFCON, we respect them, and I believe other countries participating in AFCON should be respected as well.

“Nigeria is not exempted; we have all the tools and ingredients needed to pull surprises. We will not underrate anybody; they have their game plan, and we have ours. We will see tomorrow.

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has announced that this will be his last AFCON tournament for the country,

“My first AFCON tournament was 2013 in South Africa, and we won it, my second AFCON tournament was 2019 in Egypt, and we came third, I think this is my last AFCON tournament, and I talked to the boys that success is the only gift they can give me.”

The Super Eagles will be massively supported back home. Chief among its supporters is MTN Nigeria, the official communications partner of the NFF.

The Chief Executive Officer, MTN Nigeria, Olutokun Toriola, has declared his confidence in the Super Eagles, saying, “We are backing the boys to make us proud in Cameroon. This team can go all the way and win the trophy.”

“They have a proud nation brimming with passion behind them, and we are also behind them all the way.”

“At the last tournament, we finished third, and we should be pushing on from there. The team is filled with talented boys with an opportunity to make history, and we want them to grab it.”
