Victor Osimhen reacts to Gernot Rohr’s sacking

The 68-year-old Franco-German tactician lost his job as the coach of the three-time African champions on Sunday evening

Victor Osimhen is the latest Nigerian star to pay tribute to Gernot Rohr, who was sacked as the Super Eagles coach.

Rohr was sacked as the coach of the 2013 African champions after more than five years in charge. The German had been in charge since 2016, leading the team to the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria finished third.

However, the performance of the team over the last 12 months made his position untenable, despite qualifying the team for next year’s AFCON and the 2022 World Cup playoffs.

The former Burkina Faso manager was dismissed on Sunday, but that has not stopped some of his former players from sending their good wishes to him.

Maduka Okoye was the first player to wish the coach well in his future endeavours. Osimhen has now followed suit.

The Napoli striker, who is currently out with a facial injury, took to his social media accounts to wish the former Bordeaux manager the best.

Osimhen said: Thank You For Everything Coach And I Wish You All The Best.

Like Okoye, Osimhen also made his Super Eagles debut under Rohr and has now become the country’s undisputed talisman.

The former Lille star made his debut in 2017, although it was only in 2019 that he became a regular in Rohr’s team.

Osimhen scored ten goals in 19 games, playing for Rohr.

  • Rohr is definitely a great coach that worked under a very bad boss NFF as long the current NFF administration remain the eagle will not fly. Thank you Rohr for all that you did for us with these 4 years and helping us scout great talents across the globe.

I hope to see you coach the super Eagles again in the future.

  • There is always a price for managing a complex setup like Nigeria.I think he did his sincere best, but he needed to leave because the set up is complex, because it is Nigeria.

  • Unbelievable NAIJAs, u asked for his sack and now u are crying for him, as for me, l didn't feel any sorry for him because am yet to understand his methods of coaching, for 5yr+ he still building, he should try elsewhere joo!, although I still wish him good luck.
