Report: Huge boost for the Super Eagles as Osimhen is set to return to training

The 22-year-old has been ruled out of action for three months, but he could make a return to action earlier than scheduled

Super Eagles have been handed a huge boost ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations after it was revealed that Victor Osimhen could make an early return to training.

Osimhen suffered an injury to his left cheekbone and orbit after colliding with Milan Skriniar in Napoli’s Serie A clash against Inter Milan at the San Siro.

As a result, the former Lille star went through a successful but complicated surgery. Napoli announced their star striker would be out for three months following the surgery, ruling him out of next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

However, according to La Gazzetta, as per Tutto Napoli, Osimhen could make an early return to action earlier than scheduled.

The Nigerian has already had his stitches removed and will undergo another X-ray on Tuesday. Should the result be positive, Osimhen will return to training, albeit with a protective mask.

This latest development could see the former Lille striker turn out for the Super Eagles at AFCON, which begins on January 9.

The Super Eagles begin their campaign two days later and will be hoping to have Osimhen available for the clash against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

  • Good news. Victor I encourage you to come back stronger, deadlier and even more brutal. I see you as the highest goal scorer at afcon.

  • Ooooooh my God this is a very good one for us all, I knew it Oshimhen will never want to miss the AFCON. I pray for you quick recovery bro cos I need you at the AFCON. In Jesus name AMen

  • Come on boy. You have always been a fighter and i know you will come out of this early. I declare healing upon you in Jesus' name.

  • Victor indeed is a huge boost for the Eagles and Napoli. We all wish him a speedy healing and recovery thru Christ Jesus. Amen

  • As much as i want him in the team, he need to go through recovery process and rest very well. So if he is fit enough before the end of the year he can join the team. Lastly any Coach that will be handling the team for AFCON should pls use Osimhen with caution and advice him on how to play safe so he won't continue going under the knife every now and then. Even if he made the team, he should come in as substitute then later begin to start as tournament progress further so he can fully recover and play without any pain

  • A soldier is always a soldier, and you have just proved the stuff you are, by your quick recovery, a leopard do not stay in a particular place for a long time. You have indeed, showed to us, you have a BIG business in next Afcon tournament in Cameroon, that you are going to be the highest goals scorer . Congratulations in advance for a well deserved award that you are going to bring to us in Nigeria.

  • Victor should reduce the way he husles. Be is a top strike .his job is to score and should stop engaging in dangerous tackles
