Euro Wrap: Super Eagles stars Chukwueze, Dessers, Olayinka score in contrasting cup night for Villarreal, Feyenoord, Slavia

A few Nigerian internationals were in action for their European clubs on Wednesday night, with the Villarreal forward and the on-loan Genk striker making it to the scoresheet

At the Estadio El Palmar in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Samuel Chukwueze scored Villarreal’s fourth goal of the evening as the Yellow Submarines smashed lowly Sanluqueno 7-1 in the second round of the Copa del Rey.

Chukwueze has now scored in back-to-back Copa del Rey games after scoring in the win over Victoria CF.

His mates ran riot in the opening half with five goals, before two more goals after the break drowned Adrián Armental’s consolation effort for the home side.

Chukwueze, who also hit the target in Villarreal’s 8-0 hammering of lower division side Victoria CF in the previous round now boasts four goals in 14 games in all competitions for Unai Emery’s side.

Still in the Copa del Rey, Super Eagles Kenneth Omeruo featured for the best part of an hour in Leganes’ 3-2 extra-time win away to Leonesa.

Fulltime scores stood at 1-1 before Omeruo’s replacement Jon Bautista struck twice in the 98th and 112th minutes to push the Cucumber Growers to the next round of the competition.

In the Netherlands, Cyriel Dessers continued his fine scoring form, but it was not enough to help Feyenoord avoid crashing out of the KNVB Beker at the hands of FC Twente following a 2-1 defeat in extra-time.

Dessers opened the scoring for the visitors inside De Grolsch Veste two minutes into the second period after blasting the ball into the roof of the net from a cross.

But Twente struck back through Giovanni Troupee in the 79th minute. And with six minutes left in extra time, Manfred Ugalde got the winning goal which sealed the home side’s passage into the next round.

In the Czech Republic Cup, Peter Olayinka scored Slavia Prague’s last goal in a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Zlin at the Sinobo Stadium to advance to the competition’s quarterfinals.

Olayinka entered the game in the 88th minute, with scores locked at 2-1 and Zlin looking for a way back into the tie. But the Nigerian international fired home a 91st-minute penalty to dash any hopes of the visitors finding a late equaliser.
