The three-time African champions sealed their spot in the final playoff round for Qatar 2022 after finishing top of their group
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will know their opponent in the final playoff round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in January.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed during their general congress that the draws for the two-legged playoff matches will take place on January 26 2022.
The ten group winners from the second round of qualifying will face each other in a home and away tie to determine Africa’s five representatives in Qatar.
The draw was initially scheduled for December 18, but it has now been shifted for a month. The January FIFA rankings will also be used to determine the seeds as opposed to the November rankings.
Nigeria are one of the ten group winners and should be among the top seeds as they are currently ranked fifth on the continent.
The change of date also means teams will get to know their opponents when the Africa Cup of Nations is in progress. The biennial competition takes place in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6 next year.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles could play their home clash away from home after CAF ruled that VAR will be used for all the games.
The African football governing body added that any country that does not have VAR facilities installed would be forced to play its home game at an away ground that has the facility.
Gernot Rohr’s men played all of their home games this year at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, but the stadium does not have VAR facilities.
It remains to be seen the other options the three-time African champions have, but a return to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium is possible.

Samuel ogbemudia stadium in the ancient city of Benin has VAR... But the Eagles play better on away pitches
THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT SHOULD EMPLOY ZINEDINE ZIDANE AS THEIR NEW COACH
Nigeria go pay Zinedi Zidane all Nigeria money
The Nigerian government should install VAR at Abuja National stadium
My dear brothers from Nigeria, i am not questioning the replacement of Gernot Rohr as a coach, it is just that time is not on our side I surely would like Nigeria to perform well in the Afcon 2022 and also in the World Cup 2022, I just don't trust a coach like Bora Mulutonic I am sure I got the spelling wrong who want to use Nigeria to advertise themselves at the end of the day it is the players who will deliver. So let us find out why they are under performing.
I am a concerned Pan African please don't me wrong, as for Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt being our friends please look in the mirror before you ask me that question.
Are saying Nigeria is not tich enough to have VAR vasility in at least 2 of there stadium ( stadia) ?
Don't Sack Gernot Rohr now. If you sack the present coach for now, it will be very much difficult to shine.
Please all those who are condemning Rohr instead of encouraging or supporting the national team , please i want to ask this question: Where and what state was the Super eagles before Rohr took over ?
Where there doing much better than they are doing now before Rohr took over? , I think no..
Why do we keep using this word "regressing"
Since Rohr took the job, there is no major tournament he has not qualified unlike others, let's commend him at least.
Please let us support this team, they will soon be there at the top.
Do not be deceived ,they cannot play or dorminate exactly like the Eagles in the 90s and 2000s , there are no Okochas, Kanus,Amokachis etc. presently.
If by politics, Rohr is sacked now, it will disastrous for team, time is nitbon our side afcon is from Jan 9..
I suggest the technical committee of NFF should help him .bring back discipline in the team.,very important.
I'm sure when they boys will camp for afcon they will surely find their missing rhythm and make all of us proud again. come 2022. .
God bless Naija. Go S. Eagles!!
If you dismiss Rohr now you can wave bye bye to qualifying for the World Cup. Which good coach is unemployed at the moment? No Nigerian coach measures up to Rohr as of now. I definitely respect Nigerian coaches for what they have achieved but none can take the Eagles to the promised land. The time to have ditched Rohr if we wanted is gone. Let us be reasonable please and support the current set up.
I still maintain that our football is going down, Rohr time is up we comment him on his work so far but we need a local coach like Emmanuel Amuneke who knows this team already or his assistant coach Salisu. We need a change of approach unless we don't want to make headway.
Salisu is not an option... He is corrupt, Amunike is a good try. What's the talk about world cup performance?.. Are we expecting to win the world cup, smh. Was pinick not fingered for corruption too? It's a long way to glory for the SE once again 3
