One of Nigeria’s six international stars plying their trade in the Italian elite division could be out for a few weeks after suffering an injury setback
Super Eagles full-back Tyronne Ebuehi is injured and will not be in action for Venezia when the Winged Lions make the trip to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara to face Bologna in a Serie A clash on Sunday.
The Nigerian international has been diagnosed with an injury to the right femoral rectum, which will reportedly keep him out of Venezia’s matchday squad for a few weeks.
Ebuehi joined Gli Arancioneroverdi in July on loan from Portuguese giants Benfica and has featured in eight Italian top-flight games, five of which have been as a starter.
The 25-year-old’s most recent contribution came when he came off the bench with 13 minutes left on the clock to help Paolo Zanetti’s men secure a thrilling 3-2 win over Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma just before the international break.
Compatriot David Okereke has been even more influential for Venezia, with the Club Brugge loanee netting three goals for the newly-promoted side, including the winner against the Romans.
That famous victory lifted Venezia out of the relegation zone to 15th on the Serie A table with 12 points. The Winged Lions finished 5th of 20 teams in Serie B last term and were promoted via play-offs.
Ebuehi’s loan contract with Venezia expires next June, but the Italians have an obligation to make the deal permanent should they avoid the drop.
