‘Rohr is no different from Ole’- Nigerians criticise Super Eagles coach despite win over Liberia

The three-time African champions edged closer towards qualifying for the playoff spot of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers following a win over Liberia, but fans were still not satisfied

Nigeria national team football fans have once again hit out at Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr despite the 2-0 win over Liberia on Saturday.

Penalties from Victor Osimen and Ahmed Musa helped Nigeria to a 2-0 win over Liberia in their Group C 2022 World Cup qualifier at the Stade Ibn Batouta, Tangiers.

The win means the Super Eagles need just a point in their final group game against Cape Verde to seal a spot in the final playoff round.

However, despite the victory, the fans were not satisfied with the team’s overall play, with Rohr receiving most of the criticisms.

Rohr has been in charge of the Super Eagles since 2016, but the former Burkina Faso manager was criticised for his ‘boring’ tactics after Saturday’s game, with many saying the team has regressed under him.

Rohr can silence his critics on Tuesday, though, when Nigeria host Cape Verde in their final group game. The Super Eagles need just a point from that encounter to seal their place in the playoff round spot.

  • Wow, very dissapointed about most of the comments here concerning the Super Eagle. First thing first, qualifications is very important and then we can think of style of play. Another thing is the consistency of the results. We have good team full of world class players who can create their own identity with or without Rohr. Let us be positive about our team and not be an ingrate.

    • My brother, if you do not know what to commment pls do decline next time because your comment has no sense on it, I am sorry.. having said that, where exactly on the comment section was the players critized? That's the reason why our country ( Nigeria ) is the way she's because we have individuals like you in our midst" those that hate the truth and therefore continue to make lies their only choice, if not because NFF president Pinnick is highly corrupt and useless" a man like Gernot Rohr isn't even worth enyimba coach, how you even sure you are a Nigerian because I doubt! Do you think that qualifying the Super Eagles was the only talent that Stephen kechi won the 2013 AFCON with?

    • I stand with you bro. We all seem to forget that the Super Eagles team we speak of today were assembled by Genot Rohr. Plus before he came on board qualification for the Nations cup and world cup was becoming an issue. All these PHD (plull him down) critics should relax and give the guy credit for the work he is doing.

  • Oga Michael Olaleye, the criticisms are not harsh, they are spot on. It we all see and say the truth always, we'll progress speedily in all affairs in this nation.

  • If Ghana hasn't changed coach Ghana would've long forget Qatar 2022 world cup. So Nigeria should act wisely to sing a good song at last.

  • Honestly the guy is not a coach Nigeria needs. The players are good but the coach doesn't know anything. The team always labour to win a match under this coach. Please let NFF sack him. Please let him go

  • I lost confident in Mr Rohr long time since three years ago, at the world cup when Nigeria need just a draw against Argentina to go through to round of 16. Not Until 86 min when Argentina scored the winning goal and we lost the match, as a coach you don't know how to defend for just 4 min plus added time may be approximately 10 min.

  • The mandate is to qualify and as of now the Eagles are on route to qualify for the next round . The players are getting results . Let’s not forget Eagles failed to qualify for AFCON before Rohr . Apart from Oshimwn Ndisi Iwobi , which other player plays for. Too top team or possess the skills of Jajy Jay , George . The team won 3 points - once they qualify then the real work will begin . No new coach is going to get rid of these players and being in a new set . They came 3rd at the last AFCON and are back to improve on that . Let’s support them and hope for the best . The team and Coach are much better than you critics are saying -

  • The issue is the Nff president who has defended Rohr timelessly, reeling out his record each time we talk about his inefficiency and non performance, our football is going down everyday . We need a good coach with radiation and charisma to revive this boys .we have corrupt football Administrators.

  • What Thomas Tuchel is doing with Chelsea after the sacking of Frank Lampard is clear example for Nigeria if they can bring better coach

  • Ungrateful comments because some want a new coach when the one we have is not doing badly. All they want is their country men who can't even coach a local club ingrates. The team is not doing badly please after all we are on course. If they camp together for some time I am sure they will play better
