The two footballers of Nigerian descent were on the scoresheet as Roma and Venezia played out a five-goal thriller on Sunday
David Okereke and Tammy Abraham found the back of the net as Venezia stunned Jose Moutinho’s AS Roma 3-2 at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo in a Serie A clash on Sunday.
In a fast start for the home side, Mattia Caldara made it one-nil after just three minutes, but Abraham gave the visitors the lead in first-half stoppage time after Shomurodov had equalised four minutes earlier.
Venezia had not defeated Roma in the league since February 1999, but Mattia Aramu made it two-all for the newly-promoted side early in the second half.
And Okereke net the winner for the hosts in the 74th minute after outwitting the keeper on a one-on-one following an Ethan Ampadu throughpass.
Super Eagles defender Tyronne Ebuehi came off the bench shortly after to help Venezia maintain their lead and record one of the most significant victories in their history.
Following his loan switch from Club Brugge in the summer, Okereke is gradually becoming a key player for Venezia after netting his third Serie A goal of the season.
The latest win lifts Paolo Zanetti’s men to twelve points and out of the relegation zone.
