Dessers on target again as Moses denies Leicester City in Ndidi’s return

The two Nigerians were the stars for their clubs as the Europa League and the Europa Conference League took centre stage on Thursday night 

Cyriel Dessers was again the hero for Feyenoord after he scored the winner in their Europa Conference League match against Union Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

Dessers came on to score the winner in the derby against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday, and he repeated the feat on Thursday night.

Feyenoord took the lead in the 15th minute through Luis Sinisterra, but Christopher Trimmel levelled the scores four minutes before half-time.

The home side, who had Taiwo Awoniyi before he was taken off in the 59th minute, needed the win, having lost the reverse fixture two weeks ago.

However, it was the away side that took the spoils as Dessers fired in the winner in the 72nd minute, just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Meanwhile, at the King Power Stadium, retired Super Eagles winger Victor Moses was on target as Spartak Moscow held Leicester City in their Europa Lague clash.

Leicester had won the reverse fixture 4-3 but could not get the much-needed victory at home. Moses put Spartak ahead in the 51st minute with a header, but Daniel Amartey restored parity for the home side seven minutes later.

Jamie Vardy had the chance to put the Foxes after they were awarded a penalty, but the former England international’s could not convert.

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers sent on Wilfred Ndidi as they searched for the winner, but the Nigerian international, who was making his first appearance since the end of September, could not help his side with the winner.

His international compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho also featured and came close to finding the back of the net but was denied by the post.
