Super Eagles players receive a surprise as 2019 AFCON bronze winner joins them in training

The three-time African champions received a surprise guest in training as they aim to bounce back from Thursday’s shocking loss

John Ogu was a surprise guest at the Super Eagles Friday’s training session following their disappointing loss to the Central African Republic on Thursday evening.

Gernot Rohr’s men suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat to Les Fauves in their matchday three encounter of Group C’s 2022 World Cup qualifier.

However, there is no time to dwell on the defeat as the return leg in Douala is scheduled for Sunday. The players returned to training on Friday evening, Ogu made a surprise appearance.

Although he is not retired, Ogu has not played for Nigeria since winning the bronze with the team at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The former Hapoel Beer Sheva took part in the team’s training, but Soccernet gathered that he’s not an option for Sunday despite Nigeria’s limited options in the midfield.

The 33-year-old also took to Instagram to reveal he joined the rest of the players to show his support following Thursday’s disappointing result.

Ogu has been without a club since he left Saudi Arabian Professional Club Al-Adalah in January 2020.
