Nigerians abroad: Simy inspires rare Salernitana win; Akpoguma returns after injury scare; Ejuke missing in CSKA stroll

Soccernet.ng brings you the highlight of some of the league and cup matches played across Europe on Tuesday night

In the Italian Serie A, Super Eagles striker Simy Nwankwo came off the substitute bench to inspire Salernitana to their first away win of the season, with a 2-1 triumph at Venezia.

Former Nigerian youth international David Okereke started for Venezia, but it was Italian forward Mattia Aramu who got the hosts to a great start with a 14th-minute opener.

Joel Obi battled hard for the visitors until they deservedly equalised on the hour-mark before Simy came on to assist Andrea Schiavone’s 95th-minute winner.

Super Eagles defender Tyronne Ebuehi did not make it off the bench for Venezia in the clash of the newly promoted clubs.

At the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Ola Aina saw 80 minutes of action as Torino fell 1-0 to AC Milan, with former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud netting the all-important winner for the hosts in the 14th-minute of the clash.

In the Spanish La Liga, Samuel Chukwueze featured for the last 30 minutes as Villarreal battled to a 3-3 draw against Cadiz at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

The Yellow Canaries were trailing 3-1 when Chukwueze was introduced, and he played his part as late goals from Dia and Groeneveld helped Unai Emery’s men avoid an embarrassing home defeat.

In Germany, Kevin Akpoguma shook off any injury worries from the weekend to play every minute and bag an assist as Hoffenheim thrashed Holstein Kiel 5-1 in a DFB Pokal game at the PreZero Arena in Sinsheim.

Akpoguma had limped off in the first half of Hoffenheim’s Bundesliga clash with Bayern Munich on Saturday.

New Super Eagles sensation Chidera Ejuke watched from the bench as CSKA Moscow confirmed their superiority over lower league side Metallurg Lipetsk with a 2-0 away win in a Russian Cup match.

The Nigerian playmaker has been one of the Muscovites’ best players so far. Still, his contributions were not required as goals from Bohinen and Bistrovic ensured a comfortable evening for the visitors at the Stadion Metallurg in Lipetsk.
