Musa reveals what is more important as he gets set for his 100th Super Eagles cap

The former Leicester City striker could earn his 100th international cap when the Super Eagles take on Les Fauves, but he insists it is not the most important issue

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has said that he is only thinking about the three points at stake when Nigeria take on the Central African Republic in the second leg of their Group C 2022 World Cup qualifier in Douala on Sunday.

Musa will earn his 100th cap for Nigeria if he plays a part in the game. Although he played his 100th game for the Super Eagles against Cape Verde last month, two of the games were not recognised by FIFA.

As a result, his substitute appearance in the first leg of the doubleheader against CAR on Thursday was his 99th cap.

But while he is happy he could reach a century of appearances for Nigeria in the return leg, the ex-CSKA Moscow star insists winning the clash is his major concern.

The Super Eagles go into the match on the back of a shock 1-0 home loss to the same opponents last Thursday in Lagos.

It was a result no one saw coming, and Musa believes it is vital for the three-time African champions to set it right by getting the three points on Sunday.

“I’m happy that I am about to win my 100th cap, which definitely is a thing of joy and pride for any football player at international level,” Musa told the media ahead of the game.

“However, I am more concerned about the three points.”

“The three points here have become much more precious due to what happened in the first leg, which we lost.

“The individual honour is welcome, but I am more concerned about collective glory and our country’s pride,” he concluded.

Despite the defeat on Thursday, Gernot Rohr’s men still sit at the top of Group C with six points from three games.

A win on Sunday will put them in a strong position ahead of the final round of group games next month. But a defeat will see them lose the top spot to their opponents.
