Huge boost for Rohr as Chukwueze marks his return to full training with a brilliant goal

The former Golden Eaglets star has not played since May, but he appears to have finally regained his sharpness ahead of La Liga’s resumption this weekend

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has been handed a massive boost ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers next month after Samuel Chukwueze returned to full training with Villarreal.

Chukwueze has not played a part in the Super Eagles 2022 World Cup qualifying game due to an injury that has kept him out of action for six months.

The Nigerian international picked up an injury to the anterior rectus of his left leg in Villarreal’s Europa League semi-final clash against Arsenal.

Chukwueze walked off mid-way through the first half of the second leg of that encounter at the Emirates. He has not returned to action since then after undergoing surgery, although it was not expected that he would be out for six months.

Villarreal manager Unai Emery once raised concern over the youngster’s situation, but it now appears all is now well with the Nigerian international after participating in full training with his teammates during the international break.

Chukwueze even showed his sharpness as he scored a well-taken goal, which would delight Rohr. It remains to be seen if Unai Emery includes him in the squad that face Osasuna this weekend, but he could be back for the Champions League clash against Young Boys.

Rohr can also count on the youngster for the November qualifiers against Cape Verde and Liberia, respectively.

The Super Eagles need a win against the Blue Sharks to seal their place in the playoff round, and Chukwueze’s potential return will give them more firepower in the attacking area.
