A few Nigerian footballers delivered eye-catching displays for their European clubs at the weekend
Super Eagles stars Taiwo Awoniyi, Emmanuel Dennis, William Troost-Ekong have reacted to their individual and team effort for their respective clubs over the weekend.
Taiwo Awoniyi scored his seventh Bundesliga goal of the season for Union Berlin as he continued his impressive form for the Iron Ones.
However, a late strike earned Stuttgart a share of the points, denying Awoniyi and teammates their second away win of the campaign.
And the one-cap Super Eagles star has taken to his Instagram account to express his feelings for the dropped points.
“Thanks for the support away from home. Gutted not to get the 3points, but we go again next week,” he wrote.
In the English Premier League, Nigerian internationals Dennis and Troost-Ekong were excellent as Watford came from behind to humble Everton 5-2 away from home.
Former Everton boy Joshua King made the headlines with a hat trick, but Claudio Ranieri’s men faced defeat until Dennis was introduced in the second half.
The exciting Nigerian forward added two assists and netted the fifth goal as the Hornets secured the club’s first-ever victory at Goodison Park.
On his Instagram page, the former Club Brugge wrote: “What a performance from the boys. +3 point.”
Watford teammate Troost-Ekong, who delivered a fine defensive showing, also wrote on his social media page: “Massive three points. Congrats, @IamJoshuaKing, on the hat trick. Our travelling fans were incredible. Even got a free drink from the home fans during the celebrations! Cheers!”
Former youth international Akinkunmi Amoo was once again the match-winner as he helped Hammarby carve out a 4-3 comeback over Ostersund.
The ex-Golden Eaglets star converted a 90th-minute penalty, adding it to the assist that made it 3-2 for the home side on the day.
And Amoo took to his Twitter account to confirm he had won the game’s man of the match award.
“Monday feeling. A winner mood. Man of the match award, +3 points, and a wonderful team performance.”
Nigerian star Ezekiel Henty was equally Slovan Bratislava’s best player on the pitch as the Slovakian giants thrashed Liptovsky Mikulas 4-0 on Sunday.
Henty scored twice and added an assist as another ex-youth international Rabiu Ibrahim scored to earn Vladimir Weiss’ men the win that takes them back to the top of the Super Lig.
The 28-year-old hailed his mates on Instagram after the win.
“Another victory, another show of discipline, welldone boys,” he wrote.
