2022 WCQ: Rohr praises Musa’s impact as he revels in Nigeria’s win over CAR

The 2013 African Champions bounced back from Thursday’s shocking loss with a comfortable win in Douala, and the German tactician has praised the ex-Foxes star’s impact in the victory

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has praised the performance of his players, particularly Ahmed Musa, following their 2-0 win over the Central African Republic in their 2022 World Cup qualifier on Sunday afternoon.

The three-time African champions had suffered a shocking home defeat to CAR in the first leg last Thursday, but they gained their revenge at the Japoma Stadium with a 2-0 win, courtesy of first-half strikes from Leon Balogun and Victor Osimhen.

Following the match, Roh praised the reaction of his players, saying the team could have scored more than two goals.

“It was a good reaction of my team, Rohr said on the Super Eagles media channel. We lost the other day, very unlucky in the last minute, so everybody wanted to take a revenge.

“They did it very well, even we could score a third or fourth goal.”

Rohr revealed that the 3-5-2 formation he used played a part in the victory and added that Musa’s leadership quality was also key.

The 28-year-old started the first leg on the bench but played in an unfamiliar midfield role from the start on Sunday as he earned his 100th international cap.

“We played only three in the back, and I think this helped us also, and with the leadership of Musa to win this game.”

“It is not easy to beat this Central African Republic. We saw it.”

“They made a lot of fouls, but fortunately, we don’t have any big injuries,” Rohr added.

The win over CAR maintains Nigeria’s lead at the top of group c with nine points from four games, two ahead of second-placed Cape Verde, who beat Liberia 1-0 in the other game.

  • "Experience, they say, is the best teacher. I hope SUPER EAGLES has learnt their lessons..

  • line-up 3-5-2 has given Super Eagles wide area to keep and control the ball for a long time versus CAR ;I think Rhor must play with this line-up in order to keep and control over the ball and game , also in order to press on the rival for a long time.I think an ideal line-up for Super Eagles is:- Okoye-Awziem,Balogun,Collins-Ndidi,Aribo,Etebo,Simon,Ejuke-Musa,Osimhen.
