Genk chief speaks on Paul Onuachu’s future

The Nigerian striker could not seal a move away from Genk in the summer, but he could still leave the club next year

Genk president Peter Croonen has revealed that he is happy with the presence of Paul Onuachu in Genk. Still, he believes that Onuachu will have to leave at some point in the future, as The Smurfs do not have to capacity to keep the Nigerian striker for long.

Onuachu had a stellar campaign with Genk last season, scoring an incredible 33 Jupiler league goals. After his records of last season, it was expected that the former Midtjylland man would make a move away from Belgium.

However, interests from Lyon and West Ham failed to materialise. Croonen admits that offers were on the table for the 27-year-old hitman, but none met Genk’s valuation of the hitman.

However, he believes that with the quality that Onuachu possesses, he would surely seal a  move away from the Cegeka Arena.

“The amounts that we agreed with them did not materialise in the end, but the corona crisis also played a major role in this.” Croonen told Sporza as per Voetbal nieuws.

“Both players will certainly take that next step in the future, but we now have a good core that is well connected and wants to achieve something in Europe.”

This season, Onuachu will look to replicate his form of last season to prove to Europe’s big boys that he would be worth every penny spent if they purchase him.
