Europa League: Osimhen scores a stunner, Iheanacho brilliant, but Ndidi sees red in Leicester City’s clash against Napoli

The three Nigerians grabbed the headlines, although for different reasons, as the Foxes played out a thrilling draw against the Serie A giants in their Europa League opener

Victor Osimhen scored a brace, including a brilliant individual goal, while Kelechi Iheanacho also provided a fantastic assist as Leicester City played a 2-2 draw against Napoli in their Europa League clash at the King Power Stadium.

However, it was a day to forget for the other Nigerian in action, Wilfred Ndidi, as he was sent off after receiving two yellow cards.

The build-up to the match was all about the face-off between the three Nigerian players, and they did not disappoint.

The match started at a frenetic pace, with both teams going at each other. Napoli had the first chance of the game, which fell to the impressive Osimhen, but the former Lille man could not hit the target after brilliantly beating off the challenge of Johnny Evans.

Shortly after that Osimhen miss, Ndidi was handed a yellow card for stamping on the foot of Andre Zambo Anguissa.

Luciano Spalleti’s men continued to dominate possession, but it was the Foxes that opened the scoring in the ninth minute, courtesy of a strike from Ayoze Perez.

However, it was all Napoli after that, and they should’ve levelled on many occasions but were profligate in front of goal, with Osimhen among the culprit.

Napoli found themselves trailing by a goal at the break despite creating two big chances and having four shots on target.

The second half resumed in a similar fashion, but again, it was Leicester City that doubled their advantage through a perfect strike from Harvey Barnes, who finished off a brilliant pass from Iheanacho in the 64th minute.

However, Napoli pulled one back four minutes later through the brilliance of Osimhen. The former Lille man beat Jannik Vestergaard with a brilliant first touch in the box before dinking the ball over Kasper Schmeichel with another touch.

The goal gave Napoli more energy, and in the 87th minute, they got the equaliser their performance deserved courtesy of Osimhen again.

The Nigerian international capped off an excellent performance by rising past Vestergaard to head home a Matteo Politano’s header and break Leicester fans hearts.

It even got more disappointing for the Foxes as Ndidi was sent off in the third minute of added time for a second bookable offence, although Brendan Rodgers men were able to hold on for a point.

  • Who's Tammy Abraham when we have good finishers like Osimhen and Iheanacho ? He should have been happy that Nigeria called him cos he won't even be a starter but a common bench warmer God bless this fantastic Duo (Iheanacho and Osimhen) God bless Nigeria

  • Why are we so hasty like this? Where is your father's land? What is Tammy's matter in this ? Do you know his reasons.
Or is it for a country that doesn't care about her citizens welfare that you want someone to always run after?
You chose your path and leave other people's choice alone.
