Awoniyi reveals his current situation after signing for Union Berlin

The forward Under-17 star left Anfield for Germany in the summer after failing to pin down a shirt, but things have turned around for him since leaving permanently for Germany.

Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi has stated his satisfaction after signing a permanent deal with Union Berlin.

The forward had a nomadic time at Liverpool, as due to his inability to secure a work permit, he had to spend most of his six-year stint on loan deals at other clubs in Belgium, the Netherland and Germany.

However, after featuring in the colours of Union Berlin on loan last season, he was granted his work permit.

Awoniyi was included in Liverpool’s pre-season squad, but Union Berlin had other plans in mind as they swooped in for the Nigerian on a permanent deal which Liverpool obliged for €6.5m

Since his move to Union Berlin, Taiwo has been in fantastic form. He has scored five goals for Die Eisernen, helping them to the group stage of the Europa Conference League, and maintaining an unbeaten record in the Bundesliga.

Awoniyi has now expressed his delight at joining the Bundesliga side on a permanent deal.

“Now that I’m back to one place, I believe I’m more stable, more focused,” He told Bundesliga.TV.

“It’s not like I’m working towards what’s happening after the summer, what’s happening in the winter and stuff like this. It’s not like that anymore.”

“It’s not only because of that, but I think Union is a team that suits my style of play and the coach gave me the chance that I needed, and I think this is why everything is going well,” he added.

Awoniyi has struck a deadly partnership with Max Kruse up front, and he will hope that their partnership continues to yield dividends in this weekend’s clash against Augsburg.
