The Super Eagles midfielder made his second league start of the season, but it was a disappointing evening for him and the Toffees
Alex Iwobi had a day to forget after Everton lost their unbeaten start in the Premier League following a 3-0 loss to Aston Villa at Villa Park.
Iwobi was handed a rare start by Everton manager Rafael Benitez, but his 79% pass accuracy and one shot off target summed up his performance for the 81 minutes he played.
Everton matched their hosts for the first 60 minutes, but Leon Bailey’s introduction a minute after the hour mark change the complexion of the game.
Matty Cash put the home side ahead in the 66th minute before Bailey’s cross forced Lucas Digne to direct the ball into his own net.
Bailey then sealed an excellent performance with a perfect finish in the 75th minute for Aston Villa’s third. Benitez tried to change things up by taking off Iwobi for Tom Davies, but the damage had already been done.
Meanwhile, in the Skybet Championship, Super Eagles hopeful Ovie Ejaria scored a brace as Reading stunned Fulham 2-1 at the Craven Cottage.
Ejaria put the Royals ahead in the 19th minute before scoring his second in the 53rd minute to double Reading’s advantage.
Rodrigo Muniz pulled one back for the home side in the 86th minute to set up a nervy finish, but Reading held on for a vital win.
