The Super Eagles number one man has been linked with several clubs, but his immediate future lies with The Castle Lords
Nigeria’s goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has put all rumours surrounding his future to bed after signing a new contract with Sparta Rotterdam.
The 21-year-old has signed a new four-year deal, which keeps him at Sparta until 2025. Okoye was elated after signing his new deal with the caption; ‘Happy with my new contract’ on his Twitter page.
Okoye had been linked with a move away from the club with Ajax, AZ Alkmaar and Anderlecht all reportedly interested.
But the new contract has ended their hopes of getting the Nigerian international. Okoye only joined Sparta last summer from Fortuna Dusseldorf II.
Sparta’s Sporting director Henk van Stee revealed the Castle Lords were aware of the interest in their Nigerian star, but both parties agreed to continue the relationship.
“Obviously, this meant there was a lot of interest in him, but we both had the intention to continue longer and are very happy that we are extending his contract,” Stee told the club’s official website.
Although he had a difficult start, he turned it around and has become the club’s undisputed number one goalkeeper.
The 21-year-old was brilliant in his first year in the top-flight, keeping ten clean sheets, which earned him a place in the Eredivisie team of the year and Sparta’s player of the season.
