Nigeria’s trio of Paul Onuachu, Cyril Dessers and Ike Ugbo were involved as Blauw-wit dispatched Anderlecht 1-0.
Paul Onuachu was on the pitch, Cyril Drawers watched from the bench, but Ike Ugbo stole the show on his debut as Genk secured a late 1-0 victory over Anderlecht.
Both teams have been in good form in the League, with both teams on a three-game unbeaten run. However, Genk had the upper hand as they had won three of the last five fixtures against Anderlecht.
The game was uneventful, with Anderlecht seeing more of the ball. However, they were unable to use the ball properly as they couldn’t trouble Maarten Vandervoort.
The major happening of the first half was a yellow card to Benito Raman. The first half started with Genk seeing more of the ball.
The Blauw-wit kept more of the ball and tried to bring their top hitman Onuachu into the game. Anderlecht did a good job of restricting the supplies to the towering Nigerian striker.
Much of the ball was played in midfield, with both teams struggling to create clear cut chances. Onuachu was kept silent for most parts of the game, and in the 82nd minute, he was hauled off for fellow Nigerian Ike Ugbo.
Ugbo just arrived from Chelsea in the summer, but the Nigerian striker already feels at home as it took him just five minutes to bail out the former Belgian Champions. He latched onto a ball from Thorsvedt and stuck home to give Genk the vital clincher.
The newest Nigerian kid in Genk became the new hero for Genk as he helped them secure a 1-0 victory on his debut.
