Six Nigerians get jersey numbers at Watford

The 2021/2022 Premier League season starts on Friday, and the clubs are putting the finishing touches on their plans for the new season.

Part of those plans includes releasing shirt numbers for new arrivals and changing the jersey numbers of some old players.

Newly promoted side Watford released their jersey numbers on Thursday, and six Nigerians on their payroll now know what numbers they will be wearing ahead of the new season.

New arrivals Oghenekaro Etebo and Emmanuel Dennis will wear jerseys number 4 and 25, respectively.

The status quo remains the same for William Troost-Ekong and Isaac Success as they both retain the numbers that they wore last season.

Troost-Ekong keeps his number 5 jersey, while Success keeps his number 22 shirt. It all but means that Success would remain at Vicarage Road amidst all the transfer rumours surrounding him.

21-year-old Dele-Bashiru also keeps his number 24 shirt for the second season in a row. The future of the Nigeria-eligible midfielder is not yet secured as there are reports that he is on the brink of a loan move to Reading FC.

For a change, exciting winger Joseph Hungbo has dumped the number 44 jersey. He will wear the number 36 shirt next season.

The hornets will begin their Premier League campaign on Saturday against Aston Villa at Vicarage Road.
