Serie A: Napoli confirm Osimhen’s number ahead of the clash against Venezia

The Neapolitans released their squad numbers for the new Italian top-flight season, which kicked off on Saturday evening

Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen will continue to wear the number nine jersey for Napoli after the team’s official numbers were revealed.

The Neapolitans released the number for each of their players, and their Nigerian import will continue to wear the jersey he wore last season.

Napoli open their Serie A campaign against Venezia, with Osimhen expected to lead the line. Osimhen will bear a large part of Napoli’s goalscoring burden this season as a lot is expected from him.

The Super Eagles striker arrived from Lille for a club and African record fee last summer but had his season derailed by a shoulder injury and coronavirus.

He still managed to hit ten league goals in 24 games, including seven in the last 11 matches. Osimhen is expected to eclipse last season’s numbers, especially with Luciano Spalletti now in charge of Napoli.

The former Roma manager has worked his magic on some of the best strikers of the game, and he has been tipped to do the same with Osimhen.

They’ve already shown a glimpse of what they can achieve together, with Osimhen scoring eight times in five pre-season games.

The former Lille man will hope to continue in the same vein when Napoli host Venezia on Sunday night.
