Nigeria-eligible defender leaves Arsenal for Rotherham

League One side, Rotherham United, have secured the signature of Nigeria-eligible youngster Tolaji Bola. They saw off interests from fellow League One side, Sheffield Wednesday.

The Millers signed the Arsenal Academy product on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee. The club confirmed this via their website on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old has spent the larger part of his life at the Emirates Stadium. He has been at Arsenal since he was nine years old.

In his fourteen years at Arsenal, he couldn’t make an appearance for the first team, and it is no surprise that he had to leave to play first-team football.

It is a return to EFL football for the full-back as he played for League One relegation victims, Rochdale last season.

Excited about making the switch to the New York Stadium, the left-back made stated his delight.

“A couple of weeks back, I heard that there was some interest from Rotherham, and as soon as I heard, I was really excited and wanted to be here.”

Bola is born to Nigerian parents, but he has represented England at the youth level because he was born in England.

However, he can still play for Nigeria as he hasn’t played any competitive senior game for the Three Lions.
