Hoffenheim star returns to Nigeria’s squad as Rohr names Osimhen, 29 others for next month’s qualifiers

The German tactician has named a 30-man squad for Nigeria’s 2022 World Cup Qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde next month

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has named Hoffenheim star Kevin Akpoguma in his 30-man list for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde.

Akpoguma returns to the squad for the first time since last November. Rohr named a 23-man team full of regulars for the game against Liberia, while he invited an extra seven players as replacements for the UK players for the clash against Cape Verde.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen headlines the 23-man list, with the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and Joe Aribo also on the list.

Daniel Akpeyi also makes a return, but Samuel Chukwueze and Semi Ajayi are missing. Soccernet had reported that the Super Eagles would be without ten players from the UK for the clash against Cape Verde as Cape Verde is on Uk’s red travel list.

As a result, Rohr called up seven other players as replacements for the game at the Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde.

The seven players called up are Terem Moffi, Valentine Ozornwafor, Chidera Ejuke, Tyronne Ebuehi, Henry Onyekuru, Bonke Innocent and Kingsley Michael, who both earned their first call up.

  • Good list, but I have little observation. For Gods sake,Ebuehi should make regular 23 man team and not on the reserve team or stand by.That guy is Nigeria best right full back with modern and sceitific style of play.Quick, strong, timely and neatly tacklings, very comfortable on ball ,overlapping and recovery very excellent and have good passes.Honestly I don't seem to understand while our coach is placing on standby.it beats my imaginations.

  • It still baffles me, Ebuehi is the best 2 we've had in recent time. That's why I sometime question Rohr's technical ability.

  • u are right tyronne ebuechi along side ola Aina is our best right back I don't know what is really wrong with these coach that's some little mistakes he do make that always cost him problem but I won't lie I like that squad qudos to Mr Roth but our senior players are not in the list like Victor Moses Mikel and ighalo we still need them I didn't say the players that are there are not capable but we need them for their experience and they are still a boost for the squad like some of them on the stand by are not even worthy of the call up only ebuechi I see as good player but he must be in 23 man final list .

    • The senior players u mentioned have all resigned from the national team. It's time to give younger ones the opportunity.

    • We hope Rohr features Ebuehi and Ola Aina regularly just like you suggested. They are both good.

  • Rohr should calm down think well, I don't like the way he use these players, He need to put them in their right positions and also pick his team according to their form, not names...sincerely I feel Ebuehi should be a starter, chidera Ejuke should be given more time not 2minutes more game, I beg that guy is the bomb.

  • I am not even comfortable with Kenneth omeruo sincerely I believe opportunity should be given to some other persons who are doing well locally or internationally
