‘He is extraordinary’- Former Atalanta defender on Super Eagles forward

Napoli face Ascoli in a friendly game this weekend, and the Italian Serie B side’s Italian manager is looking forward to meeting two of Il Partenopei’s most talented youngsters

Ahead of the two teams’ friendly encounter on Sunday, Ascoli coach Andrea Sottil has given his take regarding Napoli’s young Nigerian duo of Victor Osimhen and Michael Folorunsho.

The ex-Atalanta defender believes Osimhen is an extraordinary talent, and the Italian manager has thumbed up Napoli for making such a smart investment in the Super Eagles striker.

Club-record signing Osimhen is expected to be the star of a Napoli side tipped to challenge for the Scudetto next season under respected manager Luciano Spalletti.

The Super Eagles star is bracing up to that massive challenge in remarkably confident style, having netted seven goals for the Naples-based club in three preseason games.

The most recent Osimhen goals were the brace that inspired Napoli to a 3-0 victory over German champions Bayern Munich.

Sottil admits the 22-year-old can still improve, and he is convinced that the Nigerian has the potential to become a world-class forward.

“Was Victor Osimhen impressive against Bayern Munich?” Sottil said in response to a question asked on Radio Marte, as per Area Napoli.

“He is extraordinary; Napoli made a great signing, an investment of perspective. The Nigerian has high room for improvement. He has an incredible run, an impressive ‘breakout’.

“With Luciano Spalletti, he can only grow and truly become a top player at an international level.”

Osimhen is not the only Napoli star who has impressed the Sottil.

Nigerian-Italian midfielder Folorunsho caught the attention of nearly every follower of the Italian second division with his brilliance while on loan at Reggina last term.

Sottil has confessed he is one of the biggest admirers of the 23-year-old and has revealed that Ascoli are working to secure his signing on loan ahead of other rivals.

Sottil said: “Will we (Ascoli) take loan players from Napoli?

“I really like Michael Folorunsho, but I don’t know if we will be able to beat others to him. Pordenone also likes him.”

Spalletti could keep Folorunsho at the Diego Maradona Stadium, but Benevento and Reggina are likely destinations for the midfielder should the manager desires to let him leave temporarily.
