Aribo’s solid performance helps Rangers to Europa League group stages

The Nigeria international put up a solid show in midfield for the Gers as they secured a spot in the group stage of the Europa League.

Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo played all 90 minutes and put up a fantastic show to help Rangers secure a 0-0 draw against Armenian side Alashkert.

The Gers carried a hard-fought 1-0 lead from the first leg after beating the Armenian side at the Ibrox Stadium.

Rangers suffered setbacks in the game’s build-up as a couple of players and Coach Steven Gerrard tested positive for Covid-19. However, they trudged on with positivity, knowing they only had to avoid a loss to secure progression.

The first half was quite physical as Alashkert tried to bully the Gers, but Rangers held their own. The physicality got to a height in the 40th minute as James earned himself a red card after two bookable offences.

As the game wore on, Rangers held the ball more and made sure that they stopped the flow of the Armenian side.

Rangers restricted the home side to just one shot on target, a sharp contrast to the six which they registered.

In the end, Rangers secured a goalless draw, but 1-0 on aggregate, which was enough to seal a spot in the group stage of the Europa League this season.
