The new Ligue 1 season is still a week away from kick-off, but one of the Nigerian stars in the league has picked up an award-albeit for last season’s performance
Super Eagles star Terem Moffi has been voted by readers of Ouest France as Lorient’s Ligue 1 player for last season.
Moffi won the award despite only signing for Les Merlus from Kortrijk in October- two months after last season’s Ligue 1 campaign had started.
It’s a deserved award for the 21-year-old, who was one of the revelations in the French top-flight last season, even though he had a mixed start.
Moffi scored on his debut for Lorient, but he failed to score again in the next two months. However, at the turn of the year, he went on a brilliant run of form with 13 league goals to finish with 14 goals overall.
His goal proved crucial as Lorient managed to avoid the drop. Moffi’s display also earned him a national team call up, winning his first two Super Eagles caps in June’s back-back friendly games against Cameroon.
The ex-Kortrijk striker has already been linked with a move to Galatasaray, but he is only focused on Lorient at the moment.
