The president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has charged the country’s players that will take on El Tri not to put too much pressure on themselves
NFF president Amaju Pinnick has urged players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to play their game when they represent the country in the clash against Mexico.
Nigeria will take on Mexico in the early hours of Sunday morning in an international friendly at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
But the three-time African champions will be without their foreign-based regulars, with the team made up of largely domestic players.
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr had initially excused himself from taking charge of the team, but the German tactician changed his mind and will be in the dugout on Sunday morning.
And given how Rohr has relied mainly on the foreign-based players since he arrived, the domestic players may try to do too much to impress the 68-year-old gaffer.
However, Pinnick has urged the players to stay true to their quality as Rohr is difficult to impress.
“Rohr is difficult to impress, I want you all to just play to the level of your quality,” Pinnick said in an address to the players.
Nigeria will be hoping to earn their first win against Mexico when the two sides clash on Sunday morning. The match kicks off at 4 am Nigerian time.

Pinnick has not sacked Rohr because he benefits financily from Rohr contracts. Since 2016 till date.The super eagle have not won the nation Cup or have reachedThe q final of the world cup. He is only that underates his team and kils their morale in every .tournament. Mr pinnick tenure as FA chairman is disaster bc SE have not done well for the past 5 years.
Useless comment. How many nations cup has Rohr led the super to?. He qualifed them for the 2019 nations cup which they won bronze and has qualifed them for the 2021 nations cup. Has any Nigerian coaches ever passed the 2nd round of the world cup?. Rohr has qualifed us for the world cup and another is on the way. Pls leave him alone he has done well
Rohr is a good coach and done well. Look at European teams , you don’t hear the Minister or the Chairman of the football association make comments o.n The team What Robr says in Public and what he says to the players in the dressing room are 2 different things . Prior to his appointment Eagles failed to qualify for the African Cup . The players are not World Cup Finalist . The expectations of the nation is too high . The NFF pharaoh also threatened to block player transfers to "bigger clubs" while also admonishing the home based eagles to use the national team as a platform to showcase their talents to foreign clubs, saying; he would follow the players to whatever clubs they were to get signed to.
