Forgotten Super Eagles star asked to find a new club after unimpressive campaign

A hero in France, unwanted in Turkey, it is time for one of Nigeria’s forgotten heroes to find another club to do what he knows how to do best

After a less-than-impressive season in the Super League, former Nigerian international Brown Ideye has been declared surplus to requirement at Turkish side Goztepe, according to Istanbul publication, IbbHaber.

The 2013 African Cup of Nations winner only joined Goztepe last summer from Greek side Aris Saloniki, signing a two-year contract to expire in 2022.

But Ideye didn’t impress his Turkish employers in his debut season at Goztepe, with the former Sochaux star managing just two goals in 30 matches.

Despite having a year left on his 24-month deal, Goztepe have reportedly asked Ideye to find a new club before the kickoff of the 2021/22 league season.

Ideye, though, is contented with earning a yearly salary of €700,000 and is not thinking of leaving the club before the expiration of the time stipulated in the agreement he signed with the Turkish side.

The former Super Eagles striker has already reported to the club’s Urla Adnan Süvari training facilities ahead of the preseason preparations.

Ideye may be unwanted at Goztepe, but he remains a hero in Sochaux, where the French club named him in the team of the decade following a successful three-year spell in Ligue 1.

The forward also featured prominently as Nigeria lifted her third continental trophy in South Africa, scoring in the 4-1 semi-final defeat of Mali.

However, Ideye has not played for the Super Eagles since a 2-1 away victory over Zambia in a 2016 World Cup qualifying encounter.

  • Brown Ideye should go back to the drawing board and must not give up. I believe he is a good player.

  • Brown is a prolific stricker. However, he may have been caught up with AGE. He should go to China or USA and play instead of going back to his village this soon.

  • Brown Ideye should look into another career maybe as a Coach or a Sports Administrator, he has passed his prime!
