USWNT too hot to handle as the Super Falcons end summer series without a win

The African champions finished their US summer series tour without a win after following two losses and a disappointing draw

Nigeria’s Super Falcons ended their US summer series tour on a disappointing note following a 2-0 loss to the US Women’s national team.

The eleven-time African champions went into the match on the back of a draw and loss against Portugal and Jamaica.

Still, Randy Waldrum’s women were hoping to cause an upset against the number one ranked nation in the world.

However, they found the USWNT too hot to handle, even though the scoreline was respectable. As expected, the four-time world champions dominated the encounter from start to finish.

The USWNT piled pressure from the start, and it paid off in the first half stoppage time after Christian Press fired past Tochukwu Oluehi to give them a half-time lead.

The second half resumed in a similar fashion with the US dominating possession- although they were wasteful in front of goal.

However, they eventually got the second goal two minutes from time through Lynn Williams, who finished off a brilliant counter-attacking move.

It was a disappointing end for the Super Falcons, who now turn their attentions to the Africa Women Nations Cup qualifier against Ghana.
