The German tactician has been accused of treating the domestic players unfairly, but the Sports Minister says that it won’t be tolerated anymore
The Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare has hit out Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr over his unfair treatment of players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Since he took his role as the head coach, Rohr has come under criticism for not inviting more NPFL players to the national team.
The 68-year-old has relied on mostly foreign players since he took charge as Nigeria’s national team coach. This Sunday, the home-based players will represent the Super Eagles in an international friendly against Mexico at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
However, Austin Eguavoen and not Rohr will be in charge of the team, a decision that has not gone down well with the Sports Minister.
Dare expressed his disappointment when he visited the home-based players at their Abuja camp ahead of the trip to the United States.
The Sports Minister urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to have a talk with Rohr on his behaviour towards NPFL players.
“Rohr’s attitude towards home-based players is unacceptable, it’s negative to our football development & I call on the NFF to call him (Rohr) to order,” Dare said.
The former Burkina Faso manager signed a new two-year contract last year, and part of the conditions in the deal is for him to include more domestic players in his plan.
But so far, only Enyimba’s Anayo Iwuala have played a part in recent Super Eagles games, with Rohr saying all of Nigeria’s best players are in Europe.
However, Dare has fired back at the German tactician, saying he needs to do the work he’s employed to do.
“Rohr needs to shut up and do the work of his contract, he talks too much,” Dare concluded.

The Minister is the one that needs to shut up - he needs to build the infrastructure for the teams to succeed ,ans run his ministry . It’s not for him to get involved in team
Affairs including selection . The coach can’t call the minister and ask him who to select . You don’t hear the sports minister in the uk evert commenting on selection of players . Pundits can have their say but the buck stops with the coach . Rohr can observe the players and assess them but he decides who fits his plans
It's funny when the uneducated try to educate the educated on matters they know nothing about... The best players in Nigeria are in Europe and this is a fact, if we want to rule the world one day then we must allow only the best to represent Nigeria. Where is the Sunday uba of this world, ekigho ehiosu amongst others, when they are giving the platform on gamble to rise to stardom, they seek for greener pastures immediately, making them another foreign player that they nff and sport minister wants the coach to dumped in favor of another set of untested home based players. Iweala arguably the best home based eagles now is already packing up his bag and baggages in search of greener pastures in Europe. Look at the state of our league, a shame... Question is, can anything good come out from such league, with level of poor infrastructure and management. Dare should shut up and concentrate on grass roots development of the game.
Please oga Minister, leave Rohr alone. He should invite NPFL players to replace who in the current setting in the national team? Is that not why we have home based Eagle? They all have a chance now to show their skills against Mexico.

Is this not a challenge for the political minister to build the capacity of infrastructure for the Nigeria football. Our branding in every way in Nigeria football leagues is like a secondary school setting.
Instead of trying to use Rohr to play their foolish politics and show case their eye-service patriotism before the Nigerian footballers and public, he should bring in good strategies (both on state and federal levels) that will develop and rebrand Nigeria leagues to good and television-friendly standard of football.
But it will be hard for them because "they no born am well make he do pass himself for that office, when there are ogas @ the top who decides how money and decisions should flow".
Let him go and see South Africa and North Africa football leagues and settings.... mtchew!!!!!
So let him rather "KEEP QUIET". And wait till private hands will start making money from Nigeria football.
They are trying to compel the coach to invite players that doesn't fit into his system of football, if he listens to them and fails in the task they gave him, they will still be the ones saying he was given all freedom to do all he wanted but couldn't deliver. Allow the coach to make his choice, he is responsible for what ever results that comes up. NFF gave him a contract with clauses , allow him to go about it the way he wants it.
What wrong with this minister for goodness sake, i prefers Rohr as minister than Dare, For Dare to talk like this to Rohr Dare is a failure already.you don't expect Rohr to do your work. Dare keep your mouth shut next time you talk to Rohr like this you will lose your job, lazy minister.
Nigeria league teams have been willing car competitions for years now likewise our chan eagles. then tell me why we should not invite them into super eagle. clueless minister
I think this Rohr man has nothing to offer. The best of Nigerian players in Europe, where did they take off from? It's wrong to think that no good player can be discovered in Nigeria. This man has nothing to offer Nigeria. Imagine qualifying for World Cup and he started experimenting with new formations. At the World Cup proper. With the array of players Nigeria has presently, this man just managed to scratch out bronze at the AFCON 2019. After over 4 years of handling the Super Eagles, Rohr is still unsure of his team......he is still experimenting. Nigeria has about the highest number of football stars playing in his Europe yet he has achieved nothing with this excellent crop of players. And some people are still defending his continued stay. So sad those who are running our football can't run any objective assessment of this hireling who's running our football down. Don't be surprised they've been compromised if you dig deeper.
if you don't know what to say be quite, every coach has his own philosophy and the kind of players that can execute his plans. If the coach feels the players in the league are not up to standards, its because the league is substandard thats it.
